The project scope included the replacement of the existing TBIT CBIS with a new screening area containing 8 CTX-9800 EDS scanners separated into two four machine matrices. The system has a total processing capacity of 4,044 bags per hour (BPH) (plus one extra machine per matrix for redundancy), which meets the DBU+5 baggage demand of 3,981 BPH. The system was also be designed to accommodate for two (2) future CTX-9800 machines, allowing for a total of ten (10) machines with a total processing capacity of 5,392 BPH split into two (2) matrices (plus one extra machine per matrix for redundancy), which are necessary to handle the DBU+15 baggage load of 4,900 BPH. The composite Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing design approach included evaluating existing systems in the sorting area/North and South matrix building areas for reuse and reconfiguration as required along with minimal new system infrastructure to take care of the renovation needs.
